Unlike swimming, where it’s always good to go with a buddy, dogfighting is often better left to a single pilot in an appropriatley-sized aircraft. That was certainly proven to be the case by the Boulton Paul Defiant, one of two “turret fighters” put into service by the British in WWII. While it might seem cool to keep fighters off your back with a turret, concentrating the entire aircraft’s armament in such a device proved to be a bad plan!
Up until now, the only mainstream kit of this attractive, but workman-like aeronautical failure was the ancient Airfix kit, which, quite frankly, sucks. Check out my completed New Airfix 1/72 Defiant on the Planes page to see what an improvement it is!
