Not much screams “lame ’70s performance package” like trying to cover up a lack of power and refinement with stripes and graphics. A common theme in this era was the “Sunset Stripe”, a combination of many small stripes in the colours of a sunset, often found in some rather inappropriate places!
Even the mainstream manufacturers embraced the Sunset Stripe, and not much helps to date a car to the era at the start of the Automotive Dark Ages better than they do. Of course, just like in real life, the were prominent on model kits of the day too. Check out my collection of Sunset Stripe Cars and get ready for a lot of flash, but no fire. It’s on the Scores and Collections page.
