Piloted by Sara Yuki, the CBF’s fierce and loyal female member, the Land Cougar is similar in most ways to Masato’s Land Liger.
The Cougar also has three modes: Tank, Cougar and Humanoid Form. Like the Liger, it forms one of Dancougar’s feet.
The Cougar is very similar to the Liger, although it is actually only a half-track. The front wheels do not have tracks, and the tank mode has only one cannon in its turret. In addition, the bow machine guns of the Liger are replaced by missile pods that can be raised from mid-body on the Cougar’s back.
Tank Mode:
Essentially the same as the Liger’s, but without the dumb “Raisin Bran scoop” mane getting in the way. On the anime, the Cougar’s beast mode snout folds under the cockpit, and the same is true for the SoC! the gun elevates and traverses, but there is no sign of the missile launchers on the back. That was disappointing, because the old toy actually moulded them in!

The Tank Mode looks a lot like the anime, and even the Cougar’s snout folds in! Note the lack of machine guns at the corners.

From head on, we get a feel for what so many of Muge’s troops saw as they were getting run down. It’s a mean looking machine from here!
Cougar Mode:
The Cougar’s beast mode is just as convincing as the Liger’s, and is also stable and well-proportioned. It has an opening mouth with little fangs, to add to the aura of ferocity. It is the mech’s best mode, and in this mode, the SoC looks most like the anime.

The Cougar Mode looks convincing, and I prefer the standard chrome on this machine to the Liger’s gold chrome.
Humanoid Mode:
Also similar to the Liger, the Cougar’s Humanoid Form is a bit awkward. The shoulders aren’t as big, which helps, and there’s no ‘ballcap’ on the head to add confusion. the rifle is a bit smaller and more easily held, although it still can’t be pointed forward without sending the Cougar to French-kiss the pavement. While the Humanoid Form is the least convincing of the three modes, I don’t find it as blandly offensive as the Liger’s.
